Landscape Ontario's Green for Life Awards recognizes companies whose actions demonstrate continuous improvement in environmental stewardship such as the recycling of unwanted materials.

Environmentally responsible companies in the horticulture, landscape construction and design industry were recognized during Congress 2010 and Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association's (LOHTA's) inaugural Green for Life Awards competition.

Winners were announced during the show's Tailgate Party XIV and included: Appleby Landscaping, Milton, Ont. (contractor category); Lemkey Landscape Design Ltd., Winnipeg, Man. (design category); and Clintar Landscape Management in Mount Hope, Ont. (lawn care category).

Winners were drawn from participants completing the 'Environmental Scorecard,' a tool developed by LOHTA, which allows green industry businesses to rate their environmental practices and develop a benchmark for future improvements. More than 472 entries were received, with more than half coming from Ontario alone. Participants scored an average of 75.3 per cent nationally and 70.3 per cent in Ontario.

The Green for Life awards program is open to all sectors of the landscape trade industry across Canada.
