Following a performance assessment, the three cities were identified as main hubs for high-performance support. "We are pleased to announce the launch of these swimming academies," said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and national coach for Swimming Canada. "They are the result of our high-performance strategy for 2012 and will focus on servicing our top athletes at every level in their quest for podium status on the international stage. The academies will also be a catalyst for regional development. This strategy will ensure coach-athlete tandems, which have demonstrated great success." In addition to the three new high-performance academies, Swimming Canada's evolving services to its athletes currently include two national training centres (Vancouver and Montreal).
