| Canadian aquatic athletes to face the heat in India in 2010 |
©Image from BigStockPhoto.com Canadians are training hard for the aquatic events at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India. Competitive swimmers, divers and synchronized swimmers across Canada are already training hard in preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which take place in New Delhi, India, October 3 to 14. This will be the first time India, the most populous country in the Commonwealth, hosts the event. Though Canada's official aquatic team has not yet been chosen, 48 members took part in the 2006 Games, which took place in Melbourne, Australia. More than 8,500 athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth are expected to attend the Games. All aquatic events at the 2010 Games will take place at the Dr. S.P. Mukherjee Swimming Stadium. The facility contains three temperature-controlled pools—warm-up, main competition and diving—all of which are equipped with underwater observation windows. Seating 5,178 spectators, the centre was originally built for the 1982 Asian Games, but is being extensively refurbished for the 2010 event. Work is scheduled for completion by October 2009.
