Baby pool floats manufactured by Aqua-Leisure Industries have been recalled in Canada due to drowning risks.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall, effective in the U.S. and Canada, of several brands of inflatable baby pool floats manufactured by Aqua-Leisure Industries of Avon, Mass.

Although no injuries have been reported to Aqua-Leisure or Health Canada, there have been 31 reports of leg straps in the float seats tearing, causing children to unexpectedly fall into or under the water, creating a drowning hazard.

Approximately 345,000 of the recalled products were sold at various Canadian retailers, including Shoppers Drug Mart, Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, Zellers, Samko, Canadian ABC, Loblaws, Walmart and Toys 'R' Us.

The floats were sold in a variety of styles and colours, with the brand names and model numbers located on the packaging. Dates between '08/02' and '07/08' are also moulded on the valves of the recalled products; valves marked with the lettering 'NP' are not included in the recall.

The baby floats were manufactured in China and sold in Canada between 2003 and June 2009.
