Toronto rescues more pools |
©Image from BigStockPhoto.com The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has decided to keep 20 school pools open. The cash-strapped Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has decided to save an additional seven swimming pools from closure, keeping a grand total of 20 pools in operation. To cut costs, another seven pools (those requiring the most extensive repairs) will be closed permanently, while another 13 will be drained and closed by December 31. This will allow more time for fundraising efforts, as well as collection of additional pool permit revenues to cover operating costs. If funding cannot be found, these pools will be permanently closed. "Over the past two years the Toronto District School Board has endeavoured to find secure, sustainable funding to keep as many pools as possible open," TDSB chair, John Campbell, says. "We took a prudent, incremental approach that ensures funded pools will stay open and other pools, currently unfunded, can be reopened when and where incremental funding is attained."
