| B.C. residents face water bans |
©Image from BigStockPhoto.com Scorching temperatures and little precipitation are prompting water bans across southern B.C. Several jurisdictions in southern British Columbia have been forced to impose water restrictions this summer, in response to soaring temperatures, minimal precipitation and increased water consumption in the region. As temperatures rise to 35 C (95 F), the restrictions are preventing homeowners from filling up and cooling off in their backyard swimming pool, according to the Victoria Times Colonist. Regulations vary by municipality, but water use is generally prohibited in the following cases: •Filling and refilling of private, commercial and public swimming pools, hot tubs and ponds;•Watering commercial and residential lawns, gardens, shrubs, trees and flower beds (except by hand, container or drip irrigation); and •Maintenance of decorative fountains, which must be shut down. In the District of Tofino, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, the situation is so dire 'stage 2' water restrictions are in effect, preventing residents from using any water between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m., to allow reservoirs to refill. Residents are also prohibited from washing vehicles, bicycles and boats during this time.
