Bill Dovgala, former executive director of the Canadian Spa and Pool Association (CANSPA), has died at age 70.

The Canadian pool industry lost a veteran this August, with the passing of William (Bill) L. Dovgala.

Dovgala, 70, suffered a heart attack. His career in the swimming pool industry spanned many years, during which he served as president and CEO of Cascade Pools Canada Ltd., and Buster Crabbe Pools. Dovgala became executive director of the Canadian Spa and Pool Association (CANSPA) in 1987 (now the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada).

Often referring to himself as a 'grassroots' executive, Dovgala had extensive experience in pool and spa installations, retail sales and management, and was actively involved with increasing association membership and the development of minimum building standards for residential swimming pools. He also had considerable U.S. market experience, working to improve relations between CANSPA and the U.S. National Spa & Pool Institute (NSPI).

Dovgala leaves behind his son, Tom, principal of Northeastern Swimming Pool Distributors Inc., in Vaughan, Ont., and two daughters, Stacy and Deb.
