Ottawa citizens will have a new place to beat the summer heat next June, with the opening of the Calypso Waterpark in Limoges, Ont., just southeast of the nation's capital. Dubbed the "largest park of its kind in Canada," the $45-million Calypso complex is set on 40 ha (100 acres) and designed to accommodate up to 12,000 visitors per day. According to the Ottawa Citizen, waterpark features will include 24-m (78-ft) water slides, river rides, themed water play areas, splash pads and kiddie pools, as well as the Calypso Palace wave pool, with a 2,000-bather capacity. Water in the pools and play areas will be maintained at 27 C (80 F), and filtered and recycled every 90 minutes (every 30 minutes in toddler areas). The park, which is currently 80 per cent complete, will also include restaurants, shops and picnic areas, employing 500 people during peak season.
