Private groups save Toronto pool |
©Image from BigStockPhoto.com Local groups have stepped in to help keep the pool at Jarvis Collegiate high school up and running. The public pool at Toronto's Jarvis Collegiate high school will stay open for at least one more year, thanks to donations from local community groups and businesses. The Kiwanis Club of Toronto, YMCA and Manulife Financial combined to donate $60,000 in funding for the pool, which was slated to shut down by the end of the year. The funds should keep the facility open for public swims and swimming lessons for the next year, according to a recent Toronto Star article. The facility's long-term future is not known. The fate of 12 additional public pools remains up in the air. The Toronto District School Board voted last June to keep 20 pools open, drain 13 pools if funding wasn't found and close an additional seven facilities permanently.
