Residents of Dieppe, N.B., now have a new year-round swimming destination in their own backyard. The $16.2-million Dieppe Aquatic and Sports Centre, which officially opened its doors on November 1, features three separate pools. In addition to a 25-m (82-ft) six-lane lap pool, there is also a two-lane recreational pool, designed for swimming and aquafitness sessions, and a recreational pool, which is outfitted with water games, waterslides and other family- and kid-friendly features. All three pools are salt-treated. The facility is set to offer several programs in 2010, including swimming lessons, lifesaving courses and prenatal aquafitness classes. Though the official opening did not take place until recently, operations had quietly begun in late September, when the facility launched its first round of swimming lessons. The $16.2-million facility unofficially opened its doors in late September.
