Regina announces rec facility plan

The City of Regina has set out a 10-year recreation plan, which will improve its aquatic facilities.


The City of Regina has released a city-wide recreation facility plan offering recommendations on upgrades, additions and maintenance for aquatic and other recreational facilities.

The plan, which spans from 2010 to 2020, was developed through research, analysis and consultation with internal and external partners and the general public. According to the city's website, timing and sequencing of the recommendations are yet to be determined.

Among the aquatic facility recommendations:

  • Establishment of a new city-wide indoor leisure and competitive aquatic centre near the existing Lawson Aquatic Centre, which will be replaced following 2020;
  • Maintenance and enhancements to the North West, South Leisure and Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centres and Massey and Regent outdoor pools; and
  • Replacement of Wascana Pool with an outdoor city-wide aquatic park, complete with a spray pad and accessible playground.
