Owners and managers of the west-end Travelodge hotel in Edmonton plead guilty to various charges under the Public Health Act for ongoing problems, which included eight different whirlpool samples testing positive for Pseudomonas.

The west-end Travelodge hotel, along with its owners and mangers, received more than $14,000 in fines from Edmonton's provincial court after pleading guilty to several charges under the Public Health Act.

According to a recent article in the Edmonton Sun, owners of the hotel, Innvest Hotels GP Ltd. and Innvest Nominee I Ltd., received charges related to conditions found at the hotel's swimming pool, water slide and whirlpool. Officials with Alberta Health Services (AHS) closed the facility several times for ongoing problems, which included eight different whirlpool samples testing positive for Pseudomonas, along with dirt buildup, faulty monitoring equipment and a lack of trained maintenance personnel.

In the report, provincial court judge Peter Ayotte said the amount of the fine was on the lower end as the court took into consideration the Travelodge had plead guilty, co-operated with AHS and recently spent $50,000 to upgrade the pool facility.

In January, Edmonton's provincial court issued more than $20,000 in fines to the Mayfield Inn and Suites and three employees (PSM Online January 14, 2010) for failure to properly maintain the hotel's swimming pool and sauna amenities.
