NSF International's Recreational Water Certification Program, which tests, inspects and certifies products for recreational water use, is celebrating 50 years.

NSF International is celebrating 50 years of service through its Recreational Water Certification Program, which offers testing and certification solutions to help the public swim safer.

The program tests, inspects and certifies products for recreational water use, such as water circulation, filtration and treatment of residential and public swimming pools, spas, hot tubs and water parks. It addresses safety needs and concerns of consumers, public health officials and product manufacturers.

In 1960, a group of public health associations asked NSF International to develop uniform, nationally acceptable public health and performance standards for swimming pool equipment, supplies and chemicals. The result was the formation of the NSF Joint Committee on Recreational Water Facilities. This committee then developed the American National Standard—NSF/American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard 50-Equipment for Swimming Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs and Other Recreational Water Facilities.

This standard certifies that products comply with the latest national safety standards to assure consumers and recreational water facility operators that they are safer and more effective. NSF is accredited by ANSI and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for standards development and product testing/certification for the recreational water, pool and spa industries.

For a complete list of products and equipment that have been certified by NSF's Recreational Water Certification Program, visit www.nsf.org/Certified/Pools. For more information on the program, visit www.nsf.org/info/pools.
