A U.S. company has proposed a one-of-a-kind cruise ship with one of the largest waterparks at sea, and featuring seven different pools in different neighbourhoods to maximize the vacation experience for the passengers travelling to the Caribbean from Miami, Florida.
The company, Royal Caribbean International, is calling the cruise ship “Icon of the Seas” and the ship feature eight neighbourhoods with different attractions. One of the neighbourhoods, Thrill Island’s, key feature will be the water park called Category 6, which will have six different slides: an open free-fall slide with a 66-degree incline, a 14 m (46 ft) tall slide, two family raft slides with four riders per raft, and a mat racing slide.
A three-deck neighbourhood called Chill Island will have four of the seven pools: Swim & Tonic, with a swim-up bar; the Royal Bay Pool, claimed to be the largest on sea by the company; Cloud 17, an adults-only pool; and the infinity-edge Cove Pool.
The kid-friendly Surfside neighbourhood will have the Water’s Edge pool, with a giant drench bucket for kids to take a dip in and plenty of fountains and slides.
The Hideway neighbourhood will be 41 m (135 ft) above the ocean and have what the company claims to be the first suspended infinity pool in a cruise ship at sea. It will be surrounded by whirlpools, a variety of seating, and a dedicated bar.
The AquaDome, which will have a waterfall as its central attraction, is also pitched to be part of the ship. A signature AquaTheater found in Royal Caribbean International’s ships will be the venue for visitors to view water acrobatics.
