Homeowners in Windsor, Ont. must keep their pools open until September 1 in reference to bylaw #160-2010.

According to CTV News[2], this is a preventive measure to stop closed pools from turning into breeding grounds for mosquitoes; which host West Nile virus.

In the fall, property owners must ensure pool covers are installed, which are free from idle water and build-up. These must be treated with chemicals regularly..

In addition, fencing around pools must adhere to city rules.

Failure to follow the bylaw could result in an order of compliance and an inspection fee of $260.
