Drawing inspiration from the cottage lifestyle, this outdoor living space designed and built by Solda Pools Ltd., effectively recreates this atmosphere thanks to the careful selection and incorporation of various components.
In fact, several unique and inviting outdoor living spaces were created in this Toronto-area backyard to give the homeowner multiple options for lounging and entertaining, as well as comfortable places for solitude. The focal point is a 4.3- x 9-m (14- x 30-ft) constant-depth gunite pool. This design allows the homeowner to take a plunge and cool off when it gets too hot or play sports such as volleyball or basketball with the family. Incorporated at one end of the pool is a dock structure, which pulls in elements of a cottage-like setting, while also serving to disguise the housing for the safety cover when it is not being used.
The family also has the option to unwind in an adjacent 2.1- x 2.1-m (7- x 7-ft) gunite spa, which can be used throughout the winter. Further, its location allows bathers to socialize with those in the nearby lounge area, which is set on an ipe-wood deck that includes a privacy screen built of the same wood material.
A built-in outdoor kitchen, featuring a large grill, mini-fridge, smoker, and plenty of storage space, adds convenience when it comes to meal preparation and entertaining. Opposite the kitchen is a rough-sawn, Douglas fir pergola, which provides a comfortable poolside dining area.
Each element was included with forethought to encourage socialization and family gatherings, allowing them to step out the backdoor into a full-cottage experience.
