Brampton recreational facility gets federal funding boost

The Embleton Community Centre and Park in Brampton, Ont., recently became the first project to receive funding from the Government of Canada’s Build Communities Strong Fund.
On April 7, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $64 million in federal funding for the centre, which will include an eight-lane competitive lap pool and a leisure/teaching pool. This adds to the $148 million in municipal funding that was already approved by the city council.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, in a media release, hailed the investment “as a historic moment for the city, adding that the state-of-the-art recreational and community facility will serve residents of all ages for generations upon its expected completion in late 2028.”

The Embleton Community Centre is a 16,258 m2 (175,000 sf) multi-use, multi-seasonal community centre. In addition to pool facilities, it will include a gymnasium, a childcare facility, community meeting spaces, and other recreational facilities.
The centre’s detailed design plan is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2026, followed soon by the beginning of early site works.
