Construction of the first phase of the South Winnipeg Recreation Campus (SWRC) will begin soon, followed by planning for the second phase, to meet the needs of growing communities in the area.

The City of Winnipeg said in an April 8th update that it is preparing to begin construction on Phase 1. The Standing Policy Committee on Community Services will consider the construction award report on April 14. Construction is expected to begin this spring once the contract is awarded and a construction contractor is in place.

In a previous update on April 1, the City said it would begin planning Phase 2 of the SWRC, which would include an aquatic centre. The centre is expected to include a lap pool, a leisure pool, water slides, diving boards, a steam room, and a viewing area.

Design work and outreach with stakeholder groups will begin this spring. Following this, a draft design will be shared with residents in early 2027 for feedback. There is currently no timeline or funding for Phase 2 construction.
