The aquatic centre at the new Cambridge Recreation Complex will be named the Bernie Gall Memorial Pool, following a $500,000 sponsorship from Acapulco Pools in honour of its former CEO.

The Cambridge city council announced the decision on May 26.

“We are grateful for this investment in a space that will bring people together, help kids learn to swim, and keep our community active,” says Mayor Jan Liggett.

Located at the south end of the city, the aquatic centre will feature a 10-lane, 25 m (82 ft) swimming pool and a warm-water leisure pool.

“This project is especially meaningful because Cambridge is a community our business has proudly served for more than 50 years. To have the aquatic centre named in [Bernie Gall’s] honour reflects the pride my father took in his work and the legacy he leaves behind,” says Francine Gall, president of Acapulco Pools.

The sponsorship is part of Cambridge’s Play It Forward campaign, which invites residents and businesses to sponsor or donate to key capital projects such as the recreation centre.

“The Cambridge Recreation Complex is a key part of the City’s long-term vision to support active living and meet the needs of our growing community,” says city manager Rob Axiak. “Partnerships like these play an important role in funding high‑quality facilities for residents.”
