Falgarwood Pool in Oakville, Ont., will add a portable pool lift, accessible outdoor shower, tactile warning strips, step-free access routes, and a new concrete pool deck as part of the next phase of accessibility upgrades.

The Town of Oakville has secured $125,000 through the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund to complete the work after the outdoor pool closes for the 2026 season. The funding supports the second phase of the rehabilitation project at the nearly 55-year-old facility.

The upgrades follow interior improvements completed earlier this year, including an accessible entrance, customer service counter, and renovated change rooms.

The project helps the facility comply with the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) while expanding access for swimmers with mobility challenges.

Once complete, Falgarwood will become Oakville’s second fully accessible outdoor pool, following accessibility improvements at Wedgewood Pool in 2024.

The town has scheduled construction during the seasonal shutdown to avoid disrupting public programming. The pool’s regular schedule resumes in spring 2027.

The accessibility work forms part of a broader capital rehabilitation program for the facility, which first opened in 1972.

The federal grant replaces funding previously allocated through the town’s capital budget, allowing Oakville to redirect local reserves to other infrastructure priorities.

“We appreciate being able to bring accessibility upgrades at our 54-year-old Falgarwood outdoor pool to a level comparable with Wedgewood outdoor pool,” said Mayor Rob Burton.
