New centre expands Oakville’s aquatic capacity

Oakville, Ont., has opened a new aquatic centre at the expanded Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. The facility welcomed the public on July 20 following completion of pool testing and staff training.
The centre adds two indoor pools to the Town of Oakville’s recreation infrastructure. The main pool is a 25-metre, six-lane lap pool. A separate warm-water leisure pool supports aquatic fitness, therapeutic programs, lessons, and recreational swimming.
The lap pool includes an accessible ramp entry. The warm-water pool features stairs, an accessible ramp, and an in-water bench with jets. The aquatic centre also includes an enclosed on-deck viewing area accessible from the lobby.
The project expands aquatic capacity in one of Oakville’s major recreation facilities. The Sixteen Mile Sports Complex brings recreation, fitness, learning, sports, and community programming together at one site. The complex’s sports fields and cricket ground opened in 2024. The community centre and library followed in spring 2026.
The new pools are designed to support a broad range of users. Programming includes swimming lessons, lane swimming, aquatic fitness, recreational swims, and other water-based activities.
The Sixteen Mile project contains a park with active amenities such as sports fields and courts, and passive features such as a playground, walking trails, and open green space. It also includes a modern community centre, a vibrant library branch, and a four-pad arena.
